Arguably the opening band or musician of any concert plays a critical role in the event: the first act sets the tone, reaches out to the audience, and feeds their anticipation for what is to come. In this case, the gentle, earthy darkness of Aerial Ruin opened up a circle of shadow which drew one’s attention into its depths. Dispelling any notion of enlightenment or resolution, this shadow exponentially increased its intensity over subsequent performances by Wrekmeister Harmonies* and Bell Witch, ultimately collapsing under its own mass and delivering perfect doom upon Vancouver.
