As the holiday season rears its ugly head once again, Mission’s Slaughterhauser know how to go out with a bang. Planning a subsequent hiatus until February, the band put on an unruly show last Friday at Funky Winkerbeans, beginning with the underwear-clad Christopher James (Smash Alley, Saints of Death), crashing the quintet’s first song onstage (which, incidentally, has been exorcised of its busty demon decoration since this reviewer’s last visit.) Smash Alley opened the night with a set of hard-sparring garage rock, followed by Egyptian post-hardcore act, Massive Scar Era, whose members positively beamed while the enthusiastic crowd cheered throughout their set.

One wonders what the long break will do for a rowdy band like Slaughterhauser (aside from giving its various members time to recover from a recent series of unfortunate injuries), as the stage seemed barely able to contain their explosive energy. Watch out for the fully-healed Slaughterhauser when they emerge from hibernation like a sleuth of hungry bears…
