Gallery/Gig Review: Olde Worlde Nudists “Ghost Pimp 2000” CD Release (w/ Bog, Craters, & Alchemy Chamber) 23 June 2017

Recently Vancouver doom ensemble Olde Worlde Nudists released their first full-length album, Ghost Pimp 2000, at Rickshaw Theatre with support from a select group of innovative local heavy music acts. Since we first experienced the auditory ecstasy of OWN at maximum volume nearly two years ago, this debut has been on the top of our wishlist and its five epic tracks do  not disappoint.

If you weren’t familiar with OWN, there is no excuse – the album is available for streaming and purchase via Bandcamp now – and it’s a beautifully arranged, sprawling expanse of psychedelic doom, which, in the band’s own words, “is either an absurdist definition of heavy or a heavy definition of absurdism.”

However one may look at it, Ghost Pimp 2000 establishes a unique niche in the Vancouver heavy music scene as a supremely loud yet surprisingly emotive heavy album that offers a characteristically stoner-friendly series of tracks which will, we expect, top a number of annual best-of lists (including our own, thanks to the dynamic and evocative penultimate track, “Helium”.)

Support sets from instrumental acts Alchemy Chamber and Craters, as well as the lurching, shrieking behemoth known as Bog, offered a fitting overview of the city’s most ambitious and audacious established heavy music acts.

We have to apologize for the slow post rate over the past several weeks but, in the interest of continuing our efforts to catch up, let’s skip right to the photos (but remember to visit our YouTube channel for live videos of Craters and Bog, coming soon!)
